Shopping writer Shawna Healey already owns these M&S trousers and wears them often. She shares her thoughts on the stylish piece below.

As someone who spends most of their time in pyjamas, leggings and old concert tees, dressing for the office can be a bit of a struggle. Striking the right balance between smart casual without appearing too laid-back or overdressed can be tricky.

have returned for another year and I'm so glad. I picked up a pair last winter and I've basically worn them at least once a week since then. I own the black pair and I'm definitely going to pick up the light slate and dark green colourways for this autumn and winter.

Priced at £39.50, the come in a variety of sizes and lengths, all of which are currently available. They can be purchased in short/petite, regular and tall, as well as in sizes six to 24, reports .

These are made from a lightweight polyester material that gives them a breezy feel. I hang them up immediately after drying on a clothes horse and find they never need ironing, which is always a bonus.

They feature an easy wide leg design that lends an air of sophistication to the otherwise edgy style. Plus, they're finished off with a high elasticated waistband that is not only comfortable but are slimming and help me feel confident as a size 16.

The pockets serve as a decorative feature, but could be used if you require extra storage space.

The £39.50 are causing quite a buzz amongst shoppers, boasting an impressive average rating of 4.6 out of five stars. One pleased customer reported: "Great fitting trousers. Nice length. Good quality fabric and good fit."

The drawstring fixture at the base of the hem looks odd and isn't great if you are wearing them long over boots - they feel a bit trip-inducing. I bought the long, as I'm tall."

On the other hand, another shopper couldn't hide their enthusiasm: "These are just the comfiest trousers. The material is light but holds the shape well. Fits true to size. Dress them up or just wear casually. Either way, they look fab."
