Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are gearing up for their highly anticipated boxing showdown.
has carved a niche for himself in the boxing world over the past four years, primarily taking on ex-MMA fighters such as Ben Askren, Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley. This week, however, he faces , who is making a comeback to professional boxing after nearly two decades.
Tyson did participate in an exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr in 2020, . However, the rules for his bout with Paul are slightly different, including the allowance of knockdowns.
Here's everything you need to know about the two boxers ahead of their Friday night face-off....
Jake PaulPaul made a splash in the boxing world when he faced off against YouTube rival Deji in Manchester in 2018, featuring on the undercard of his brother Logan's initial bout with KSI. Paul defeated Deji in the fifth round, kickstarting a boxing career that has now led him to Texas - and Tyson.
Paul continued his winning streak by defeating another social media star, AnEsonGib, in his first professional fight in Miami in 2020. He then embarked on a series of fights against other athletes, securing victories over NBA star Nate Robinson and MMA fighters Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), and Anderson Silva.
Paul then faced Tommy Fury, brother of ex-heavyweight world champion Tyson, in his first real challenge against a bona fide boxer. Although Paul managed to knock down Fury, he lost on points with two judges favouring the Brit.
He bounced back with a victory over UFC legend Nate Diaz and, in a bid to demonstrate his commitment to boxing, knocked out Ryan Bourland and Andre August. Paul's most recent bout was a sixth-round stoppage win over bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry, who filled in when Tyson had to delay his own fight with the 27-year-old until this Friday.
Until now, Paul has competed at cruiserweight but has bulked up for his clash with Tyson and is anticipated to weigh in at approximately 220lb on Thursday. This will likely be around 10lb lighter than the heavyweight legend, but the YouTuber will have a five-inch reach advantage when they face off in the Texas ring on Friday night.
Mike TysonTyson requires little introduction following an illustrious career that saw him become the youngest-ever heavyweight champion when he won via second-round stoppage in 1986. He remained undefeated until a shock defeat by James 'Buster' Douglas in Japan in 1990.
Tyson reclaimed the world champion title when he knocked out Frank Bruno in Las Vegas in 1996, but his career took another controversial turn when he bit Evander Holyfield's ear during their 1997 rematch after losing their initial bout the previous year.
Tyson continued to fight but was defeated by his arch-rival Lennox Lewis in 2002, dashing his hopes of becoming a three-time champion of the division. He fought three more times, defeating Clifford Etienne before losing to Danny Williams. Tyson's last professional bout - until this week - saw him retire after five rounds against Kevin McBride.
Four years ago, Tyson made a comeback when he faced fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr in an eight-round match held behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite being widely regarded as the winner, the fight was declared a draw by the three judges.
It seemed that Tyson's career was over - until Paul challenged the heavyweight legend. The New Yorker appears to have kept himself in remarkable physical shape and is expected to weigh in at a similar weight to his final fights during his initial career.
