Joan episode 1 cast: Who stars in the ITV drama with Sophie Turner?

New ITV drama Joan starring Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner in the lead role is set to hit our screens this weekend. The series, based on the real-life exploits of notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington, also known as The Godmother, delves into the criminal underbelly of 1980s London.

As the series unfolds, viewers will witness Joan's descent into crime deepen, with an array of disguises and plots aimed at securing a stable future for herself and her daughter.

Written by Anna Symon, the series will be broadcast at 9pm on Sunday, September 29 on ITV1 and offers viewers a peek into the gritty reality of 1980s London and the true tale of Joan Harrington.

Sophie Turner - Joan Hannington

Sophie Turner has transformed into notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington to support her daughter and live a life of luxury.

British actress Sophie Turner is known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and her Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She has also starred in The Staircase, Jean Grey in the X Men films, Time Freak and Josie.

Frank Dillane - Boise Hannington

Boisie is a London antique dealer but also a known figure in London's criminal underworld. He marries Joan and they become one of the richest thieves in the country.

Frank Dillane is known for his roles in The Essex Serpent, Fear the Walking Dead, and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Kirsty J Curtis, known for Rise of the Footsoldier and Harlots, portrays Nancy, Joan's older sister and a salon worker.

Gershwyn Eustache Jnr - Albie

Gershwyn Eustache Jnr plays Albie, an old acquaintance of Boisie who's made a new life in Spain with his wife Val.

You may recognise Gershwyn from I May Destroy You and Top Boy, as well as A Spy Among Friends, Andor and Britannia.

Laura Aikman - Val

Val is Albie's wife and has no idea about her partner's criminal behaviour. She lives out in Spain but is unsure why.

Laura previously appeared in The Split and Gavin and Stacey, but she also appeared in Waterloo Road and Casualty.

Kirsty J Curtis - Nancy

Nancy is Joan's sister and also owns a hair salon in London. She wants Joan to take work seriously in order to get her daughter back.

Kirsty is known for roles in EastEnders, Sneakerhead, Rise of the Footsoldier and Timewasters.

Alex Blake plays Bernard

Jewellery store manager Bernard hires Joan and wants to help her build a career and support her family. But he becomes leery and wants a sexual relationship with Joan.

Alex Blake previously appeared in The Crown, Chernobyl, Andor, Dangerous Liaisons, Doctors and Strangers.

Other actors joining the series include Nick Blood (Agents of S. H. I. E. L. D, Safe), Jack Greenlees (Strike, Harlots), Caroline Faber (Grantchester, Berlin Station) and Dorothy Atkinson (The Gold, Stonehouse).
