Lee Carsley is confident that England possess "the talent" needed to triumph at the World Cup. And he believes that the responsibility now lies with Thomas Tuchel to devise the winning formula.

Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, will assume his role on January 1, tasked with guiding England to World Cup triumph in 2026.

Tuchel has won plenty in his managerial career so far, including the Champions League during his tenure at Chelsea, and he will inherit one of England's most gifted generations.

Carsley has also helped a fresh wave of talent come through during his interim spell in charge, and has expressed confidence that England can make the final leap after narrowly missing out at the last two European Championships.

When questioned if Tuchel can fulfil England's World Cup-winning ambition, Carsley responded: "I think we are in a good position to do that. I think we have the talent to do it.

"I have been lucky now to be at the last couple of World Cups and the timing of the players being in form, physically and mentally, at the right time, picking the right squad. We have got all of the tools. We just need to play them in the order."

Carsley led promising talents like Anthony Gordon, Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer to victory at last year's Under-21 European Championships.

During his time in interim charge of the senior squad, they have played big roles in the Nations League, and now these young stars could seize their opportunity alongside established players like Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane at the World Cup in 2026.

Carsley has warned of a more challenging journey at the next World Cup in the United States, yet he holds onto a strong belief in the team's capabilities.

He added, "It is fair to say the challenges will be more difficult in the 18 months in terms of if we are going to win the World Cup. We have shown we can do it."
