Luke Humphries hits back at darts fans after being mocked for wearing Slazenger shoes

has issued a scathing response to a darts fan who took a dig him for wearing Slazenger shoes at the oche. 'Cool Hand Luke' has enjoyed the most successful season of his career in 2024, having .

And following the conclusion of the Grand Slam of Darts event on Sunday, which saw teenage sensation win , the Sky Sports Darts X account posted an update of the top-10 players to followers. Humphries shared the image with glancing eyes and dollar signs emojis, only for some fans to then take digs at him.

One fan wrote: "And you still wear Slazengers?" The man dubbed 'Cool Hand Luke' then showed his ruthless side though, immediately cutting his detractor down to size.

"You have to ask yourself lad... why would I be wearing them?" he said. "Because they are really comfy maybe and I don't need to walk on stage with a pair of £1000 pair of shoes to be world champion."

He wasn't the only keyboard warrior who Humphries responded to. Another also tried to get personal, writing: "Even with all that money, can't afford to shave his chest or get his teeth done."

Humphries hit back with: "Ain't it funny how people attack someone's appearance when they're successful. I could afford to do whatever I want mate but I choose to stay the way I am as I'm happy in myself, clearly deep down you have some insecurities about yourself... work on that first."

Despite his stunning success this year, Humphries has been lauded for remaining down-to-earth. Only on Monday, Littler on the PDC circuit, with the pair close friends as well as fierce rivals.

The 17-year-old is widely perceived to have produced the greatest debut season in the history of the sport. Indeed, it was only Humphries who denied him a fairytale win in his maiden last December and January, beating him 7-4 in an enthralling final.

But a measure of how consistent Humphries has been is that despite notching his first major TV ranking title on the weekend, Littler only lies fifth in the overall standings.
