One person has died following a severe accident on the in Lancashire on November 6, police have confirmed. A large truck, or heavy goods vehicle (HGV), crashed into the central reservation, which is the barrier separating the northbound and southbound lanes between Junction 33 (near Lancaster) and Junction 32 (near Preston).

After hitting the barrier, the truck flipped over and ended up lying on its side in the opposite lane from where it originally travelled. This has blocked traffic in both directions, leading to the full closure of this section of the motorway.

Lancashire police said: "The collision involved an HGV travelling northbound which crossed onto the southbound carriageway & collided with a number of other vehicles. Sadly the collision has resulted in one fatality and a number of serious injuries."

Following the incident, there were severe delays between J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road and J32 M55, National Highways said.
