Man Utd duo could wreck Viktor Gyokeres transfer as top target speaks out

Viktor Gyokeres has hinted that the presence of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund at might deter any potential move to Old Trafford. With now at the helm of the 13-time Premier League champions, Gyokeres has been linked with a switch to reunite with his ex-Sporting Lisbon boss.

Both Zirkzee and Hojlund haven't quite met expectations since joining the Red Devils. Hojlund's inaugural season was a patchwork of highs and lows with 16 goals and two assists across 43 competitions. Considering he cost United £72million, many have felt underwhelmed.

Contrastingly, Gyokeres' record and reputation have soared since his transfer to Portugal, where he's racked up an impressive 23 goals and four assists in 18 outings across all tournaments this season.

He's a pivotal force behind Sporting's impressive campaign so far, which currently has them at the top of the Primeira Liga and second in the Champions League table. With the international break wrapping up, the focus will now shift onto how the Swedish sensation adapts to playing under the stewardship of new manager Joao Pereira.

Gyokeres recently paid homage to his mentor, when he said: "It's very sad that Amorim is leaving, but of course we understand his decision. He meant a lot to me, as he gave me the opportunity and helped me grow a lot. Now we look forward to working with the new coach."

United fans will be eager to see how Amorim fares in his United managerial debut on Sunday when the the Red Devils faces off against Ipswich Town in a highly-anticipated Premier League clash.
