However, a glimmer of encouragement did emerge for the German, as were believed to be interesting in taking him onto their WEC team. While he would not exactly be following in his father's footsteps, it would have been poignant for Mick to officially join the Scuderia.
But the move has fallen through, once again leaving Mick to pick up the pieces of his flailing motorsport career. As he has done throughout the last few years, the youngster pledged to not give up, despite his frustrations.
In a message to his 3.6 million followers on Instagram, Mick said: "Life doesn't always go as planned and setbacks can be tough to face. But every challenge is a chance to learn, grow and come back even stronger.
"This is just a chapter, not the whole story. The journey continues and I'm determined to rise above it. Thank you all for your support, it means the world."
It was reported that Ferrari were seriously considering bringing Schumacher into their famed Hypercar program as a means of replacing Antonio Giovinazzi, who is on the verge of moving to IndyCar. Despite his struggles, Schumacher would have been a huge asset for both racing and marketing purposes, such is the cache in his surname.
There may have also been potential of using this opportunity as a means to squeeze his way back into F1 through the reserve driver role.
It's understood negotiations may have fallen through as a result of his contractual obligations with Alpine. In addition, other reports claim his current role as the reserve driver for Mercedes may have also complicated matters.
Schumacher joined F1 in 2021, where the spotlight immediately shined on him. Despute the clamour around his name, Schumacher also drew plenty of eyes when he won the Formula 2 World Championship in 2020 while driving for Prema. He would go on to become a test driver for Alfa Romeo and Haas, before joining the latter as a full-time driver in 2021.
After two seasons, which saw him finish in a disappointing 16th and 22nd, Haas ousted him and brought in Nico Hulkenberg as a replacement. He has since competed with Haas' WEC team and as a reserve driver at Mercedes.
