A footballer has been quizzed by police amid an investigation into multiple sexual offence allegations, according to reports. The man, in his 30s, was interviewed under caution at a police station last Thursday.
The police investigation concerns allegations of rapes against two women and a separate sexual offence against a third woman. Authorities first apprehended the unnamed player in question in July 2022 at an address in west London.
He has continued to represent his club in the two-and-a-half years since his initial arrest.
A Met Police spokesperson told : "Met officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023. A man in his 30s was arrested in July 2022. He has since been interviewed by police on two further occasions while under caution.
"The investigation remains ongoing and detectives are continuing with in-depth and detailed enquiries. Those who have come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers."
A report of an alleged rape led to the player's first arrest in 2022. While in custody, police arrested him on suspicion of two further incidents of rape, in April and June 2021.
The player was also arrested in February 2023 on suspicion of an alleged sexual offence in west London the year prior. While the investigation is set to continue, no further action will be taken regarding the alleged June 2021 incident due to the fact relevant legislation was not in effect at the time it is said to have occurred.
This latest development follows a separate incident last month in which a former player, 24, was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman at a hotel in Westminster.
The footballer was bailed until mid-December pending further enquiries, with the police carrying out a forensic examination of the hotel room and analysing CCTV footage from the establishment.
Back in April, two teenage players were arrested after a rape was reported to police. One of the players was arrested on suspicion of rape while the other, who was quizzed by authorities in a private room within his club's stadium, was later detained on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape. Both were subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.
