Speaking on Zoom to community chef Charlie Farrally from the Scottish charity Peek Project, the 42-year-old said the success of his family meal "depends on what's on the table".
William lives at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor with Princess Kate and their children - George, 11, Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Louis.
Speaking over the Zoom call, William continued: "If parents put something on that children love, dinner time goes on very well.
"But if you put something on the table they don't want to do, that's another ball game."

Princess Kate, who announced the end of her chemotherapy back in September, stayed at home in Windsor with George, Charlotte and Louis.
Speaking on his final day, William shared that he and Kate are looking forward to travelling in the future - although the visits will likely be short and relatively close to home.
Discussing whether their children are set to join them, he said: "Family-wise, you've have to wait a little bit longer because obviously they're at school and I think that takes priority over everything else.
"But I think hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so, we'll have some more trips maybe lined up."
