If only we could keep our towels as soft and fluffy as the day we bought them. Well, according to a cleaning expert we can - using a number of common household ingredients.

TikTok user Hida (@cleaningwithhida) regularly provides hacks to help us around our homes and in doing so has amassed an impressive 435,000 followers. In her latest video she reveals how white towels can be restored to their best by following her five simple steps.

"What you need," she penned in the clip's caption. "Washing soda (sodium carbonate/soda crystals), Pink Stuff Oxi Powder (or Vanish Oxi Action for example), laundry detergent, and white vinegar."

Hida began by filling a large bowl with warm water, advising that a bathtub is also suitable. Next she placed her white towels, making sure they were all fully submerged, before adding half a cup (around 100g) of washing soda (soda crystals), followed by one scoop of Pink Stuff Oxi Powder.

Wearing rubber gloves, she gently pressed the towels to ensure the products dissolved in the water and left the towels to soak for "at least an hour". After this time had elapsed, Hida placed the towels in her washing machine, adding her regular laundry detergent and white vinegar to the tray.

"Wash the towels on a hot cycle," she advised, showing she had opted for one that takes one hour and 32 minutes. "Tumble dry if possible to make them extra soft."

As a slight alternative to the method, Hida added: "You can also skip the soaking part if you just want a quick refresh for your towels - then just add baking soda to your washing machine drum and white vinegar to the fabric softener compartment and run a hot cycle."

She closed her video showcasing the end result, proving her point with towels that looked as good as new. Responding to queries about how much white vinegar to use, Hida detailed: "About 1/2 cup. Depends on how full the machine is but this time I only had a couple of towels."

"I need to buy this asap!" declared one of Hida's followers in response. "Love your hacks!" penned a second. Whilst a third gushed: "Fluffy towels is such a vibe."

White vinegar is a clear solution generally containing four to seven per cent acetic acid and up to 96 percent water. Due to this acidic nature, it makes for an excellent cleaning solution, which is why it often appears in hacks such as these.
