has become big business in recent years, as collectors pay big bucks to pick up classic video games from yesteryear. The retro gaming boom arguably peaked in 2021 when a sealed copy of Super Mario 64 sold for a staggering £1.1 million at auction. Of course, this particular copy was given a 9.8 A++ rating by video game grading company Wata, which means it was like new. While it's unlikely your old games will be in such good condition if they're used and have been lying around, it goes to show that these classic , , SEGA and Atari games can be worth a fortune under the right circumstances.

If you don't think it's worth sending your old video games off to be graded, you may want to check closer to home to see what the going rate is for your classics.

It might surprise you to find out that you can net nearly £900 for an old PlayStation 1 game from CEX.

The UK retailer will buy your mint copy of Cindy's Fashion World for a whopping £897 in cash, or over £1,000 in trade-in vouchers.

SEGA Game Gear racing title Power Drive is another valuable title. CEX will pay £780 for a mint copy of the game, £650 for a boxed version with a manual, and £585 for a boxed copy without the manual.

Speaking of handhelds, a mint copy of Game Boy title Trip World can be sold for £715, while Mega Man V can be sold for £585.

While these games are all pretty rare and weren't widely available at launch, SEGA Saturn game Panzer Dragoon Saga was much more common when it released in the 1990s.

A mint copy (with manual and cardboard sleeve) of the unique role-playing game can be sold to CEX for £513.

Another fairly common game that also goes for a lot of money is Castlevania Symphony of the Night for PSOne.

A mint copy with the manual, artbook and soundtrack CD can be sold to CEX for £412.

One of the more recent games on the list is Nier Automata. CEX will pay £331 for a copy of the Black Box Edition with figurine and artbook.

Perhaps because of the cardboard sleeves that would easily get ruined, but a lot of Game Boy titles are on the list of most valuable games.

Hammerin' Harry, Aerostar and Starhawk are all worth between £250-£400, while Game Boy Advance release Ninja Cop can be sold for £321.

Next time you go to throw away an old video game, it's worth checking sites like CEX and eBay to see the going rate. Who knows, you could be sitting on a fortune!
