While the senior Indian cricketers are preparing for the ultimate battle against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is going start from 22 November in Perth, the young cricketers are making Indian cricket fans happy with their superb performances against South Africa.
The Indian team is playing a 4-match T20I series against the Proteas and as of now, it is leading by 2-1 after winning the 3rd T20I.
In a dazzling display of batting prowess, Tilak Varma’s innings in the third T20I against South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion, became a standout moment in the ongoing series. Coming out at No. 3 for India, Tilak scored an impressive 107 runs off just 56 deliveries, which included eight fours and seven sixes.
His knock played a crucial role in India’s total of 219/6 in 20 overs, ultimately contributing to an 11-run victory, giving India a 2-1 lead in the four-match series. For his match-winning performance, Tilak was awarded the Player of the Match title.
Tilak Varma made some records while batting in the third T20I and here is the list of all those records:
. Joining the T20I Century Club: Tilak became the 12th Indian to score a century in T20 internationals, joining an elite list of players including Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.
. Second Youngest Indian Centurion: At 22 years and 5 days old, Tilak Varma is the second youngest Indian batter to score a T20I century behind Yashasvi Jaiswal who achieved the feat at 21 years and 279 days against Nepal in October 2023.
. Highest Individual Score Against South Africa: Tilak’s unbeaten 107 matches the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is against South Africa, a record also held by Sanju Samson in the first match of the same series. Together, they hold the top position for the most runs in a T20I between India and South Africa.
. Centuries in South Africa: Tilak Varma became the fifth Indian to score a T20I century against South Africa and the third to achieve this milestone in South Africa, alongside Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson.
. Fourth Indian Centurion in 2024: Tilak Varma’s century makes him the fourth Indian batter to reach triple figures in T20Is in 2024, joining Rohit Sharma (121 vs Afghanistan), Abhishek Sharma (100 vs Zimbabwe) and Sanju Samson (111 vs Bangladesh and 107 vs South Africa).
Other than the records, Tilak Varma also contributed in the partnerships with his teammates as he forged a key 107-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma, who contributed 50 runs off 25 balls. Tilak Varma also added a vital 58-run stand for the fifth wicket with Rinku Singh, anchoring India’s innings and pushing the team to a formidable total.
