100% Road Tax And Registration Fees Exemption On EVs In This Indian State

Telangana EV Tax Update: In a bid to promote the sale of electric vehicles in the state, the Telangana government has announced a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles (EVs). This exemption has been announced for an initial period of two years, applicable starting from November 18th, 2024, until December 31st, 2026, the Government Order (GO) 41. The state Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar recently made the new announcement to make EVs more popular in Telangana and curb vehicular pollution.

Telangana EV Announcement: Which Vehicles Will Be Covered?As part of this initiative, the state government has announced a complete exemption from road tax and registration fees for a wide range of EVs, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, taxis, auto-rickshaws, light goods carriers, tractors, and buses. Additionally, electric vehicles operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and those used for employee transportation by private companies will also benefit from this policy. After the latest EV road tax waiver, the government is expected to make further announcements on the EV charging stations and the infrastructure developments to holistically promote the EV infrastructure in the state. UP Government EV Policy Announced Earlier In 2024:The latest update from the Telangana government comes on the heels of a similar announcement made by the , which has reportedly also improved the sale of Hybrid cars in the state. The UP government announced a 100% tax exemption on EVs and Hybrid cars starting July 1, 2024. Needless to say, this tax waiver has significantly brought down the cost of NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) vehicles in the state.
