New Delhi: Former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh was denied bail by a designated CBI court, which observed that the nature and gravity of the charges against him is "grave" and could attract capital punishment if proved. The court extended his CBI custody and co-accused Abhijit Mondal till September 30, Monday.Ghosh was arrested by the CBI in the rape and murder case of a doctor at the state-run hospital on August 9. The premier agency has also arrested former officer in-charge of Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, for allegedly tampering with evidence and delay in filing of FIR in the rape and murder case.The court in its order, dictated on September 25, said it appears that the process of investigation by the central probe agency is in full swing and thus "it would be injustice flouting the principle of equity to release the accused on bail".Denying the bail to Ghosh, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate S Dey observed that the nature and gravity of the accusation is grave and if proved, it may attract capital punishment, which is handed in the rarest of rare cases, news agency PTI reported.The court also rejected the bail prayer of Abhijit Mondal, the officerwho was in-charge of Tala police station at the time of the rape-murder incident.'Ghosh Falsely Implicated'During the hearing at Sealdah Court, Ghosh's counsel claimed that he was falsely implicated in the case and there was no act on his part to commit the crime as alleged.ALSO READ: CBI Tightens Noose On Doctors Of North-Bengal Lobby, Investigates Close Aide Of Sandip GhoshHowever, the court disagreed and observed in its order that a person may commit an offence with the help of other/s, and there is no need to be present for the other accused at the place of occurrence.RG Kar Evidence 'Fabricated' At Tala Police Station: CBIThe CBI has alleged that some records related to the horrifying rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital were "fabricated" at Tala Police Station.According to Times Now, the CBI also claimed that former officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mandal, spoke to Sandip Ghosh on August 9, the day the crime occurred.During the court proceedings, CBI officials claimed that the duo's custodial interrogation revealed additional facts, including forged documents and manipulated evidence at the Tala Police Station, where initial reports of the case were filed.The body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was found at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month triggering nationwide protests. Three people have been arrested in connection with the case including former Principal Sandip Ghosh, Tala Police Station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal and civic volunteer Sanjay Roy.
