On November 14, 2024, the shoot of Star Plus show Anupamaa witnessed a tragedy as one of the crew members, Vineet Kumar Mandal, died on the set. The 32-year-old member worked as a camera attendant and passed away due to an electric shock. The mishap reportedly happened while the man was handling some technical equipment and he accidentally came in contact with a live wire. He was rushed to the hospital immediately but died while being treated there. The President of All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Suresh Gupta, have now criticised the makers of Anupamaa for not taking enough safety precautions on set. Suresh told SCREEN, “Anupamaa is being shot for a few years now. However, on November 14, there was an incident on the set where one of our workers, Vineet Kumar Mandal, 32 years old, who worked as a camera attendant passed away after getting electrocuted during the shoot.”Suresh accused the producer and channel of trying to suppress the incident. He claimed, “The channel, producer, and production house have been trying to suppress the matter. Wrong news was spread, but such incidents keep happening every time on sets and the workers die whether through an electric shock or due to a set fire. This happens because the production houses and channels don’t provide enough safety precautions to save a few pennies.”He added, “Wires are unexposed which becomes fatal, but these people see the crew workers as pests. As the president of the All India Cine Workers Association, I request the government authorities to register an FIR against the makers of Anupamaa and the officials at Film City for murder. All the authorities at Film City also know about the negligence on sets, but they never take action. The deceased person’s family should be given Rs 1 crore as compensation and an investigation should be carried out.”The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have stepped in to launch an inquiry into the unfortunate incident.According to Senior Police officials, the accident occurred when Mandal attempted to lift a light stand without wearing protective gloves. The exact circumstances are still being investigated. Meanwhile, initial findings suggest negligence on Mandal's part. A case has been registered under Section 106 (1).3(5) of the Indian Penal Code at Aarey police station. The production house of Anupamaa has not yet issued a formal statement.
