Music legend AR Rahman and his wife Saira have decided to separate after 29 years of their marriage. On Tuesday night, Saira released an official statement confirming the news, citing emotional challenges in their relationship as the reason behind the decision.
AR Rahman, Saira announce separation“After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time," read the statement shared with India Today.Saira expressed that this step was taken with immense pain, requesting privacy and understanding as she navigates this challenging time."Mrs Saira emphasised that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Speaking to Simi Garewal in a past interview, Rahman shared that his mother played a key role in choosing his life partner. “I didn’t have the time to find a bride myself,” he revealed. “I was busy with films like Rangeela, so I told my mother to find someone simple, who wouldn’t give me much trouble, so I could focus on my music and find inspiration.”The couple shares three children: daughters Khatija and Rahima, and son Ameen Rahman.
