India are all set to take on Australia in the first Test of the crucial five-match Test series for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy from November 22 (Friday) at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The Indian team are heading into the match on the back of some poor form as they were whitewashed 3-0 by New Zealand at home. The visiting team will have two key players missing from the side- Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, the latter being sidelined due to a finger injury. However, reports have now stated that two young stars are all set to feature in the Playing XI in the all important 1st Test.

Devdutt Padikkal To Play In Place Of Shubman GillDuring the intra-squad practice match at WACA ahead of the first Test against Australia, Shubman Gill injured his finger while fielding, and later scans revealed it to be a hairline fracture. Now, it looks like the star batter .According to a report by The Times Of India, Devdutt Padikkal is all set to replace Shubman Gill in the playing XI at no.3. Padikkal is not part of the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but is likely to be added as a replacement for Rohit Sharma, who is set to miss the 1st Test after the birth of his baby boy. Padikkal has traveled to Australia before the India squad as part of the India A squad that took on Australia A in two four-day games. After the confirmed absence of Rohit, and Shubman Gill's injury, he has now been asked to stay back. Harshit Rana Set To DebutAccording to the same report, 22-year-old pacer Harshit Rana is all set to make his debut for India in the first Test vs Australia. He reportedly impressed during the intra-squad match simulation at Perth with his effective bouncers.“Harshit was very impressive in the match simulation at Perth, especially while bowling his bouncers. There’s a good chance that he will make his India debut at Perth," a source close to the proceedings informed the publication.
