Burnet County, Texas Shooting: Shots Fired At Church At The Epicenter, No Injuries

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, deputies from the Burnet County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported welfare check at the Church at the Epicenter, located at 2401 N US 281 in Burnet, Texas. The call was received at around 10:33 in the morning. A male suspect called 911, gave the address of the church, asked for police aid, and then abruptly hung up, according to dispatch. When the police arrived, they could clearly see that there had been firing. It was found that the gunman was a volunteer safety team member of the church. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries at the location. The volunteer said that outside the church, he approached two suspicious-looking men. Rifles were aimed at one of these people. The member of the safety team fired several shots, which worsened the situation. After then, the armed suspects escaped on US 281 northward in a white minivan. The sheriff's office has verified that they are partnering with many state and federal authorities in their investigation into this occurrence.Security staff at the church stated that they initially observed an unsettling figure close to cars in the parking lot. This person was seen setting a boulder next to an external entrance, as if to prevent entry. The man ran away toward a white minivan when he was approached. At that moment, a another suspect—a Muslim with a turban—came out of the car brandishing an AR-15-style gun.The individual was armed, so the church security guards opened fire. After then, the white minivan drove off, northward toward Lampasas.A description of the suspects has been released by the Burnet County Sheriff's Office. Two individuals with dark complexion tones are said to be driving a white minivan. According to reports, both individuals were equipped with rifles and had headdresses that were either white or off-white in color. The event raises serious security concerns, in the opinion of the Burnet City Manager. Any camera video from the region taken on that day between 3:00 and 11:00 a.m. has been sought by the sheriff's office. The Lampasas Police Department expanded its personnel and oversight following the event. More officers were sent to police the city, paying particular attention to nearby churches. Law enforcement authorities in the area have collaborated to sustain elevated alert levels and guarantee preparedness to immediately address any possible danger.
