Many cricket gurus have written off Virat Kohli ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but Australia great David Warner is aware what Kohli brings to the table. Kohli hasn't been at his best in Test cricket in the recent few years and endured a horrible outing in the preceding Test series against New Zealand, scoring just 91 runs in three Tests, but Warner fears Kohli could bring out of his vintage against in Australia, a country where he has been very successful. Kohli has scored six hundreds in Australia, with 1352 runs at an average of over 50 in 13 Tests. “This is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and we know Virat always steps up in Australia and completely embraces that challenge like almost no one else who has ever visited our shores. There is no better way for him to come out and shut the critics up. I’m genuinely worried for the Australian cricket team that he’s going to come out and pile on some runs,” Warner wrote in his column for Herald Sun.
Focus On Kohli, But India Have Lot More To WorryVirat Kohli is the face of Indian cricket and gets all the limelight. There is a lot of chatter about how Kohli's lean run could hurt India or benefit Australia, but India have far more worries than just Kohli's form. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is also not in the best form along with KL Rahul while young guns like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Sarfaraz Khan have not played Test cricket in Australia before. Shubman Gill was an in-form batter for India, but he was ruled out of the first Test due to a broken thumb. The bowling also looks too dependent on Jasprit Bumrah, especially with Mohammed Shami not part of the squad and Mohammed Siraj not in the best of form. The series gives Australia a great chance to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but Australia have paid the price for writing off India before when an injury-marred team defeated them on the 2020-21 tour.
