Election Day Traffic? No Problem! Mumbai Metro Rolls Out Additional Services for Voters

Mumbai: Underground Mumbai Metro Line 3 will run for additional hours on Wednesday, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) said in a post on X( formerly known as Twitter). The decision has been taken to ensure smooth travel for voters and election staff during the Maharashtra Assembly elections. A post shared on X by Mumbai Metro 3 read, ''On Election Day (20th Nov 2024), Metro Line-3 trains will operate from 4:00 AM on 20.11.24 to 1:00 AM on 21.11.24 to support voters. Plan your travel and make your vote count!,” Mumbai Metro 3 said in a post on X.''

On Wednesday, first train will depart at 4 AM and the last train will leave at 1 AM on Thursday. Reportedly, 20 additional trips have been planned to cover the additional demands. “Mumbai Metro One is pleased to extend operational hours on 20th November in support of the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha General Election 2024. The first metro will depart at 04:00 am from both Versova and Ghatkopar stations, and the last service will be at 01:00 am on 21st November, providing uninterrupted travel for on-duty officials.''

More than 30,000 police personal have been deployed on security duty in Mumbai for the Maharashtra assembly elections to be held on Wednesday, officials said.Elaborate arrangements have been made to maintain law and order and ensure smooth conduct of the elections, a police official said on Tuesday.Five additional commissioners of police, 20 deputy commissioners of police, 83 assistant commissioners of police, more than 2,000 other police officers and 25,000 personnel have been deployed, he said.Additionally, three Riot Control Platoons have been put on duty for the purpose of maintaining order.The traffic department has separately deployed 144 officers and more than 1,000 other personnel on security duty, the official said.More than 4,000 Home Guards have also been deployed and several personnel drawn from various central and state security forces have been assigned duties at critical locations.Since the implementation of the model code of conduct on October 15, cash, precious metals, liquor, narcotics and other items valued at nearly Rs 175 crore have been seized in Mumbai, the official said.To ensure free and fair elections, preventive action has been effectively taken against 4,492 individuals under various legal provisions.With PTI Inputs
