Delhi: A man and four members of his family have been charged with conspiring to murder his newborn twin daughters in Sultanpuri, Delhi. The Delhi Police, in an 800-page chargesheet filed at Rohini Court in August, revealed that the family was displeased with the birth of the girls and deliberately neglected their care before allegedly killing and burying them to cover up their crime, as per a TOI report. The twins were born on May 30, 2024, to Pooja and Neeraj Solanki at a hospital in Rohtak, Haryana. However, just days later, on June 1, they were reportedly murdered. Neeraj and his family picked up Pooja and the newborns from the hospital under the pretence of taking her to her parents’ home in Ismaila, Rohtak. Instead, they diverted to Sultanpuri, where the infants were allegedly killed and buried. The chargesheet claims that the crime was premeditated, with the family depriving the babies of necessary medical and nutritional care. Neeraj, identified as the primary accused, allegedly neglected the infants, facilitated their murder, and buried their bodies without informing his wife. His father, Vijender Solanki, reportedly assisted in the burial, while his mother, Chand Kaur, handed the babies over to Neeraj for the act. His brother Dinesh and sister-in-law Monika are also implicated in the crime.
Allegations of Dowry and Gender PreferencePooja, a BSc graduate who married Neeraj on February 2, 2022, alleged she faced constant harassment for dowry. The chargesheet also mentioned the family's preference for a male child. During her pregnancy, Pooja was allegedly pressured to undergo a sex determination test, which she refused, fearing adverse consequences. The chargesheet showed the deliberate steps taken by the family to conceal their actions. The infants were buried secretly, and evidence was allegedly destroyed to prevent exposure, as per the report. The case surfaced in June, bringing to light the grim realities of gender discrimination and dowry-related violence still prevalent in some parts of society. The accused, including Neeraj, his parents Vijender and Chand Kaur, his brother Dinesh, and sister-in-law Monika, face charges under multiple sections, including those related to murder, foeticide, infanticide, dowry harassment, and common intention. You may also like
