When a man in the United States (US), who nearly threw his lottery ticket away, read a news story about an unclaimed $1 million prize (over Rs. 8 crore), he ended up winning it.According to the , the player had bought the ticket for their October 26 drawing from a gas station store in Taylor, Marion County. However, he forgot to check if he had won anything.It wasn’t until days later that he was reminded of it. The player was scrolling his newsfeed when he stumbled upon an article about a $1 million Powerball ticket that had been sold at a FastLane store."I was actually about to throw it away. And then I thought maybe I should check this one,” he said of his ticket.It turned out to be the top-prize winner as all five white balls, 8-12-40-45-51, that came up in the drawing matched.When the player told his wife, she didn’t believe him at first. "I was in shock. I actually thought he was joking,” she recalled.The couple did not reveal whether they had any plans for the winnings.Previously, an ticket, which a woman bought as an afterthought and forgot about, struck another Rs. 8 crore prize.The player, a resident of Elmhurst, said she was driving to her aunt’s when she stopped for groceries, and on the way out of the Jewel store, decided to get a Lucky Day Lotto ticket.“I actually put the ticket in my purse and forgot all about it,” she explained.The ticket was for an October 20 drawing, but its owner only remembered to check a few days later."I saw the ticket in my purse and opened my lottery app to scan my ticket and check if it was a winner,” the player recalled. “I immediately saw '$1,000,000' on the screen and I was in total shock.”
