A man in Texas went viral after purchasing a Taylor Swift-autographed guitar for $4,000 (Rs 3,35,215) at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner auction, only to destroy it immediately afterward. The event, held near Dallas to support agricultural education, saw the man smashing the guitar with a hammer, drawing cheers from the crowd before the host intervened. The guitar, donated by a third party with a certificate of authenticity, has become the subject of online speculation, with some believing the act was a protest against Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. However, the buyer’s true motivations remain unclear.

The incident has ignited heated debate on social media. Many condemned the stunt as wasteful, while others defended it as an expression of free speech. One user wrote, “People like this live to hate... This kind of hate needs to stop.” Another user noted, “Taylor Swift is worth $1 billion. He just set $4,000 on fire. He must be struggling in this economy.”A spokesperson for Ellis County Wild Game told WFAA that the act was not intended to be malicious, explaining, “He was just making a light-hearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.” The spokesperson added that all funds raised at the event go directly to local youth and agricultural education programmes.Last month, Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 election, urging her 283 million followers to register to vote, adding fuel to speculation about the motives behind the guitar-smashing stunt.
