Mumbai Malad's T-Shaped Flyover Set To Become Fully Operational By Jan, BMC Completes Girders Installation

Mumbai: The T-shaped flyover at Mumbai’s Malad area is expected to become fully operational by the first week of January, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) completing the installation of all the girders early Friday morning.Currently, the flyover at Mith Chowky is partially functional, serving only east-to-west traffic. Once completed, it will also accommodate southbound vehicles. The final launch of the girders was completed during the night between Thursday, November 14, and Friday, November 15. With the girders now in place, the next steps involve laying the asphalt roads, followed by waterproofing work, which is expected to take more than a month. Authorities anticipate opening the flyover to traffic by the first week of January, as per a Indian Express report.The flyover begins near Girdhar Park Bridge, crossing over the Malad Creek and Mith Chowky junctions. The eastern ramp leads towards St. Joseph’s School, Malad Station, and the Western Express Highway (WEH), while the southbound arm connects to Link Road, offering access to Andheri, Juhu, and the airport.Due to the elevated Mumbai Metro 2-A line passing overhead, the 800-metre flyover will be restricted to two-wheelers and light motor vehicles (LMVs), with no access for buses or heavy vehicles.The flyover project was first proposed in 2014 but was delayed due to uncertainties around the metro project and the height of the elevated metro bridges. Construction resumed once the metro line became operational.
