Mumbai: In a scathing attack on the Congress party, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Grand Old Party is in such a bad shape that anyone associated with it is bound to "drown", and the same would be the fate of its allies in Maharashtra contesting under the banner of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Singh was campaigning for Mahayuti in Maharashtra ahead of the November 20 assembly elections. Maha Aghadi leaders are fighting among themselves, how will they develop Maharashtra? For Maha Vikas Aghadi, Mumbai and the whole of Maharashtra are like ATMs from which they only want to withdraw money, said the BJP leader. "Congress ruled the country for a long time, but now its condition has become so precarious that anyone associated with it is bound to drown....In Maharashtra, Congress has piggy-backed on the Shiv Sena (UBT ) and NCP (SP), and their drowning is certain," said the senior BJP leader, campaigning for his party's Shivajinagar constituency candidate Siddharth Shirole. The Congress is no longer able to stand on its own feet, he added.
Singh said that Congress ruled the country for 20 years but never gave respect to Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar that he deserved. Taking a potshot on Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, he said Rahul Gandhi roamed around with a red colour book claiming that it is the constitution. Indian constitution never permits reservations based on religion. BJP's basis of politics is justice and humanity, the defence minister added.Mounting an attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray, Rajnath Singh said, "I have great respect for late Balasaheb Thackeray. But the way Uddhav ji has put principles aside for power has pained me a lot. I want to say that Uddhav ji, forming a government is not a big deal. A man is one who does not waver from his principles in times of adversity. What have you done? Whoever embraces the Congress is sure to sink."He addressed three election meetings in Mumbai, Palghar and Pune where he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honoured Babasaheb by giving him Bharat Ratna.#WATCH | Pune, Maharashtra: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh says, "I have great respect for late Balasaheb Thackeray.
