Ratan Tata Biography, Early Life Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937. His father Naval Tata and mother Sooni Tata seperated when Ratan Tata was 10 years old. He was raised by his grandmother Navajbai Tata. Ratan Tata Schooling, College DegreeRatan Tata completed his schooling at Campion School and John Connon School, Mumbai. He completed his schooling from Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. He joined BA, Bachelor of Architecture program offered by Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, USA) at he age of 17 and got degree in year 1962. After working for few years, he pursued Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1975. Ratan Tata Career Path: TimelineSoon after completing graduation, Ratan Tata joined the Tata group as an assistant in Tata Industries. He completed his six months training at the Jamshedpur plant of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company, which is now known as TATA motors. This experience gave him a unique understanding of the people who powered India's industrial growth. He was appointed Chairman of Tata Industries. He took over Tata Sons, Tata trusts in year 1991. In 2008, he was honored with second-highest civilian award of India, the Padma Vibhushan. In 2012, he stepped down as Chairman of TATA sons and was appointed as Chairman of Emeritus of Tata sons. His net worth is estimated to be Rs 3600 crore.He was once asked how he wanted the world to remember him. In an interview, he said, “Apart from values and ethics which I have tried to live by, the legacy I would like to leave behind is a very simple one – that I have always stood up for what I consider to be the right thing, and I have tried to be as fair and equitable as I could be."
