India batter Shreyas Iyer's father Santosh was seen applauding his son's double hundred at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai on Thursday. He notched up a brilliant double century, propelling Mumbai towards an imminent win against a hapless Odisha, while also reminding the selectors of his red-ball credentials, at least at home. Iyer lost his place in the Indian Test team after his back injury recurred during the England series earlier this year and Rajat Patidar took up his spot at No. 4, in the absence of Virat Kohli. In a bid to come back to the Indian Test team next season, Iyer decided to ply his trade for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and now has a hundred and a double hundred to his name. He played a brilliant innings of 233 runs off just 228 deliveries as Mumbai declared on a whopping 602/4. Watch the video here:

Iyer's second successive hundred in the Ranji Trophy turned out to be his highest score in first-class cricket as he hammered Odisha all around the park at a strike rate of 102.19. Iyer’s innings was well complimented by comeback man Siddhesh Lad’s 169 not out, who smacked 17 boundaries in his 337-ball knock. Mumbai added another 217 runs to their overnight score of 385/3 with Iyer and Lad putting on an overall 354 runs for the fourth wicket, now a record for the 42-time winners in the Ranji Trophy.Home spinners Shams Mulani (2/52) and Himanshu Singh (2/22) then provided important breakthroughs to reduce the visitors to 146/5. Odisha are still trailing by another 456 runs in the first essay and have Sandeep Pattanaik (73 not out) and Debabrata Pradhan (7) at the crease.Shardul Thakur provided a breakthrough when he cleaned up the Odisha opener Swastik Samal for a seven-ball duck.
