US 'Discussing' Strikes On Iranian Oil Sites With Israel

Amid escalating tensions in Middle East following missile attack on Israel, US President Joe Biden spoke on the possibility of retaliatory strikes on Iranian oil facilities. Biden said that the US is discussing strikes on Iran's oil facilities as retaliation by Israel. At the White House, Biden was asked if he would support Israel striking Iranian oil strikes after Tehran fired nearky 200 missiles on Israel on Tuesday night forcing the residents to rush to bomb shelters. "We're discussing that. I think that would be a little...anyway" Biden told reporters, adding, "There is nothing going to happen today." His comments quickly sent oil prices spiking just a month before the US presidential election.He said that the US doesn't "allow" Israel, but "advises it about future action. Earlier, Biden had said that the US will not back Israel attacking Iranian nuclear sites. Earlier, an Axios report claimed that Israel may target Iran's oil facilities in retaliation to the missile attack. The report claimed that Israel may attack Iran's defence system, adding that targeted killings of senior figures are also possible. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of consequences after Iran launched ballistic missiles targeting two military bases of Israel and the headquarters of Mossad, Israel's intelligence service on Tuesday. "Iran made a big mistake today and will pay for it. The Iranian regime does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to take revenge on our enemies," he said.The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the missile assault was a response to the recent Israeli killings of Hezbollah leaders and aggression against the Iran-backed armed group in Lebanon, as well as in Gaza, as per Reuters.Recently, Israel carried out targeted strikes at Iran-backed Hezbollah's underground headquarters in Lebanon's Beirut, in which the group's chief Hassan Nasrallah was killed. Earlier in July, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh was also killed in Tehran. Iran had vowed retaliation in both instances.Hezbollah has been launching rockets at Israel since shortly after the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel by Iran's Palestinian ally Hamas, and Israel's crushing retaliatory offensive in Gaza.
