There's no doubt that Virat Kohli is one of the greatest ever cricketers to grace the game and his innumerable records speak for itself. He led the side for 8 years from 2014 to 2022 but ended his captaincy tenure without winning an ICC trophy. But despite of not winning any major trophy, Harbhajan Singh, the Men in Blue's legendary spinner heaped huge praise on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star's role as a leader for instilling a fire inside the India team with a lot of guts and brain, which made the side more formidable in recent times. Because of this fire, Team India is making waves in the international circuit with the biggest achievement in recent times is the T20 World Cup title. Bhajji exclaimed that world cup or no world cup, Kohli will never be considered less both as a captain as well as a player. "Kohli ki kaptaani mei chaahe aap World Cup nahi jeete (you may not have won a World Cup under Kohli's captaincy), but it doesn't make him a lesser captain or lesser player," Harbhajan told Sports Yaari in an interaction. The 44-year old said took the example of the historic win in the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy, where Team India after getting dismissed for a shocking 36 runs, defied all odds to clinch the series 2-1 against Australia. Even though Kohli had to leave the series after playing only a match due to the birth of his child but Harbhajan feels the impact he left behind actually transformed the team to a whole different level."Jo usne aag lagayi na team mei (the fire that he ignited in the team), like it may be a target of 400 in the fourth innings of a Test, we'll go for the chase, we won't' panic. If we go down, we do it while chasing," he told. "...it takes a lot of guts and brain, which Kohli has instilled in the team. So every person has left his legacy," the 2-time World Cup-winning spinner added. Kohli might have not won any major trophy as a captain but as a player he won the ODI World Cup in 2011, the Champions Trophy in 2013 and the T20 World Cup in 2024. Now, the World Test Championship remains to be achieved.
