Hezbollah's media relations head Mohammad Afif was killed by an Israeli strike, the group confirmed on Sunday. Afif who was also known as the top spokesperson for the Lebanese armed group, died after an Israeli strike targeted the Arab Socialist Baath Party's office in the Lebanese capital, Reuters stated citing two security sources. Israel's military released a statement on Sunday reporting it had "eliminated" Afif. Who Was Mohammad Afif?Mohammad Afif, who belonged to the founding generation of Hezbollah began his media work in 1983. He was close to Hassan Nasrallah who was killed by Israeli forces on September 27, 2024. Afif was announced the head of Hezbollah's media relations department in 2014, while he was working as a media advisor for Nasrallah.Read More: He looked after political programs and news on the group's Al-Manar TV and played a crucial role in managing media coverage throughout the conflict between Israel and Lebanon that took place in July 2006, Al Jazeera reported. He was in charge of managing the media and psychological war against Israel, as well as helping to develop the party's political and strategic positions. In his recent comments to reporters on November 11, he had said that Israeli soldiers had been unable to capture any area in Lebanon and that Hezbollah had enough weaponry and supplies to wage a "long war," Al Jazeera stated. The assassination of Afif is the latest in the chain of killings of top leaders in the group, including its chief Hassan Nasrallah who died in an Israeli strike on a residential building in Beirut in September.
