Ubisoft delays 'Assassin's Creed Shadows', read the company's statement

Send Push
Ubisoft has announced a delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows . Originally slated to release on November 15, the French studio has announced that the game will now launch on February 14, 2025. In a post shared on X (earlier Twitter), the company also explained the reason for this delay. Ubisoft said that the delay will allow the company for additional polishing and refinement of the new parkour and stealth mechanics that are set to arrive in the game. This will ensure a more polished experience for players. This decision comes despite the game being "feature complete" and follows a 12-minute gameplay reveal in June that had fans excited for a holiday release.

In the X post announcing the delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft wrote:

“Dear players,

Assassin's Creed Shadows is a dream project for us; finally bringing the series to Feudal Japan with many features developed with our community in mind, such as parkour or renewed stealth, brought by new technology, all set in a beautiful and immersive world.

This is an ambitious addition to the franchise, a rich experience that can be lived through the eyes of two unique protagonists - but we realise we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features.

As such, we've made the decision to postpone the release date to February 14,

2025. The game will be released on a broad range of platforms, including Steam at launch. Additionally, preorders will be refunded and all future preorders will be granted the first expansion for free.

We understand this decision will come as disappointing news, especially to those who've been waiting patiently for an Assassin's Creed game inspired by Feudal Japan, but we sincerely believe this is in the best interest of the game, and ultimately your experience as a player.

Rest assured we are looking forward to the moment you will embark on a memorable adventure with Naoe and Yasuke.

Until then, we thank you for your ongoing support.

Marc-Alexis Côté, on behalf of all teams working on Assassin's Creed Shadows.”

“The learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title,” Ubisoft said in its financial update. The company also said that it’s also changing its traditional season pass model.

“All players will be able to enjoy the game at the same time on February 14 and those who preorder the game will be granted the first expansion for free,” Ubisoft added.

Assassin's Creed Shadows: What we know so far

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be available on Steam on day one, marking Ubisoft's return to Valve's store. This delay puts it close to the launch of Obsidian's Avowed RPG.

Set in Japan, Shadows features dual protagonists : samurai Yasuke and shinobi assassin Naoe . It will launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and later on macOS.

The delay comes shortly after a first look at Ghost of Yotei, also set in Japan. Ubisoft's board of directors is also conducting a review to enhance its execution and focus on a player-centric approach.
