Congress on Saturday snubbed AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for his recent 'will have to take everyone along to defeat BJP ' remark saying the party will be against anyone who does politics on the basis of religion.

"Ask him what kind of politics he wants to do. If we are against the RSS-supported BJP brand of politics, we will be against anyone who does politics of religion," Congress' Pawan Khera told news agency ANI.

"This country will run on Constitution," he added.

Earlier, speaking on recent Haryana election stunner, Owaisi, in a veiled reference to Congress, said the "old party" has to take everyone along to defeat the BJP.

"How did they (BJP) win (Haryana)? I was not there. Otherwise, they would have said 'B Team'... They lost there. Now, you tell me, they lost because of whom?" Owaisi said, addressing a public meeting at Vikarabad in Telangana on Friday night.

"I would like to tell the old party. Understand what I am saying. You have to take everyone along to defeat Modi. You will not be able to do anything alone," he said.

Meanwhile, BJP accused Owaisi of being the "B team" of Congress and INDIA bloc.

"It is clear today that if Asaduddin Owaisi was anyone's B team, it was of Congress party and INDI Alliance. Initially, they were contesting separately so that they could unite the vote bank of Muslim community and create fear in that community. But now it is clear that entire INDI Alliance is only attempting to create fear in the Muslim community and lying to them...So, they are fearful that their vote bank will vote for development...Real communal politics is being done by Asaduddin Owaisi, Rahul Gandhi and INDI Alliance," BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said.

In Haryana, BJP clinched a historic hat-trick by winning 48 of 90 assembly seats. Despite anti-incumbency, Congress' hopes of a comeback were dashed as it got only 37 seats.
