NEW DELHI: Calling Rahul Gandhi " Chota Popat ", the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday hit back at the Congress leader over his jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'ek hai toh safe hai' slogan, stating that Rahul doesn't know the real meaning of the word 'safe'.

While addressing a presser, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that there are two meanings of 'safe' but the people (Gandhi family) who have been looting the 'tijori' for many years, now consider the meaning of 'tijori' as safe.

At the conference he said, "The press conference done by the Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi was of a very low level. It does not suit the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi to bring a 'tijori' and do drama around it."

"I was seeing an old interview of Balasaheb Thackeray (founder of the original Shiv Sena) where he was asked about Rahul Gandhi to which he said 'don't ask me about Chota Popat.' The name has been given by Balasahab Thackery. I would say 'Chota popat ne kiya hai Congress chopat ,' 'Chota Popat kare Congress chopat.' The people who have been looting the 'tijori' for many years, now consider the meaning of 'tijori' as safe...The family has over the years looted the 'tijori' of India," he added.

During the presser, the BJP spokesperson showed a photo of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as accused no. 1 and 2 with the statement 'Maal tijori ke andar dono bail par bahar' (Money inside the locker and the other two accused is out on bail). He also took out another photo of Rahul Gandhi with statement 'Chota popat kar dii apni party chopat.'

Rahul Gandhi mocks PM Modi with 'ek hai to safe hai' jab

This remark came in a response to Rahul Gandhi's 'ek hai toh safe hai' jibe. The Congress leader, during his presser today, explained the nexus between the slogan and the Mumbai's Dharavi project being given to Adani."

Narendra Modi's slogan is: If we are united, we are safe. The question is: who is one, who is safe, and whose is it safe?" he said at a press briefing.

"The answer is – there is Narendra Modi, Adani, Amit Shah and there is Safe Adani. At the same time, the people of Maharashtra and Dharavi are the ones who suffer loss," he added.

Rahul Gandhi said that it is BJP's habit is to divert public attention. He further added that there are many projects worth about Rs 7 lakh crore given outside Maharashtra. Lakhs of jobs were lost.

"Dharavi's land is a big issue. Farmers are not getting the right price for their crops. There is unemployment and inflation. Now if BJP cannot answer these questions, then it will only divert people's attention, but we are not going to deviate from the issues," Rahul said in a briefing.

Calling the Maharashtra election a contest between the billionaires and the poor, Rahul said that Congress government would side with the farmers, poor and the unemployed.

"The election of Maharashtra is the election of ideology, it is between select few billionaires and the poor. The billionaires want the lands of Mumbai. Our thinking is to provide help to farmers, poor, unemployed. The main issues are employment, and inflation," he said.
