'Congress is now parasitic party surviving on crutches': PM Modi slams Congress at Nashik rally ahead of Maharashtra polls

Send Push
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party for hindering India’s progress, especially in sectors like defense manufacturing, and accused them of seeking power by dividing communities. Speaking at a Nashik rally today, ahead of Maharashtra’s November 20 assembly elections, PM Modi called Congress a "parasitic Congress" that relies on coalition partners for survival, saying, “Congress is no longer the All India Congress. It has now become a parasitic Congress. This party is surviving only on crutches."

PM Modi further claimed that Congress is struggling across India, often needing allies to contest elections in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Modi emphasized that Congress’s dependence on coalitions reflects its dwindling influence and divisive politics.

Congress 'against OBC unity'

In a pointed accusation, PM Modi asserted that Congress is attempting to weaken Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities to clear a path for its return to power, saying, “Congress wants all these castes to fight among themselves. They are most troubled by the unity and strength of the OBCs.” He argued that Congress is unsettled by having an OBC Prime Minister serving a third term and is “venting their anger on the OBC."

PM Modi also pointed out that Congress and allies in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have consistently opposed policies like the Ladki Bahan Yojana, aimed at empowering women and OBCs. “Congress and its allies leave no opportunity to push the country backwards and weaken it; they did so in defense manufacturing,” he said, citing their previous mismanagement of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which, under BJP, has now achieved record profits.

Abrogation of Article 370 and BJP’s 'One Nation, One Constitution' vision

PM Modi contrasted BJP’s commitment to a unified India with Congress’s stance on Article 370. “2-3 days ago, Congress and its allies created a ruckus in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to re-implement Article 370. They want Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution removed from Jammu and Kashmir,” he claimed, highlighting BJP’s “One Nation, One Constitution” approach.

Achievements of BJP’s double-engine government

PM Modi promoted the achievements of the BJP’s “double-engine government” in Maharashtra, focusing on development programs like the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and Namo Shetkari Maha Samman Nidhi, which support farmers. He credited BJP policies for the economic upliftment of over 25 crore people and assured that the annual assistance to farmers would increase from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 if re-elected.

Congress’s 'Gareebi hatao' slogan critiqued

Criticizing Congress's "Gareebi Hatao" slogan, PM Modi argued that poverty persisted under their leadership, while BJP’s governance has brought tangible progress. “Within the last 10 years, 25 crore people have come out of poverty. This happened because Modi’s intent is right; he works as a servant of the poor,” he stated.

Highlighting BJP-led improvements in women’s welfare, PM Modi noted initiatives like the Ujjwala Yojana, providing free gas connections, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has given over 1.25 crore households access to tap water.

PM Modi warned that Congress’s return to power would reverse these achievements, urging voters to support the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance. “To ensure that such work for the poor continues, it is necessary to form a Mahayuti government again in Maharashtra,” he concluded, framing the election as vital to Maharashtra’s growth and stability.
