NEW DELHI: The Congress party is set to form a fact-finding committee to investigate its unexpected loss in the Haryana Assembly elections , according to party sources. Despite predictions from exit polls, the BJP secured a third consecutive victory in the state, overcoming anti-incumbency and crushing the Congress' hopes for a comeback.
The grand old party lost ground and secured only 37 out of 90 seats, while the BJP made history with the third government in a row, claiming 48 seats in polls.
Rahul Gandhi , Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, addressed the results on Wednesday, saying that the party was analysing the unexpected outcome and would report complaints from various constituencies to the Election Commission .
“We are closely examining the results and will apprise the Election Commission of complaints from several assembly constituencies,” Gandhi said. He expressed gratitude to the people of Haryana and to Congress workers, saying, "Heartfelt thanks to all the people of Haryana for their support and to our 'Babbar Sher' workers for their tireless hard work."
Gandhi vowed to continue fighting for rights, justice, and truth, and to keep raising the voice of the people, despite the electoral setback in Haryana.
Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera, while rejecting Haryana assembly election results as "unacceptable", had alleged EVM tampering.In a post-result press conference, Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said some candidates had noticed that on EVMs that had 99% battery charge, the party had lost, while those with a charge of 60-70% showed a victory for the Congress. The party on Tuesday took the unprecedented step of declaring that it will not accept the verdict, alleging there was a “conspiracy” hatched through “manipulation” of EVMs.
Meanwhile, the National Conference-Congress alliance celebrated a significant victory in the first elections held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
