Constitution Day: No Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha sessions on December 26

NEW DELHI: The ministry of parliamentary affairs announced that both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will not convene on December 26 to observe " Constitution Day ".

The Parliament's winter session is all set to begin on November 25 and is scheduled to conclude on December 20, subject to government business requirements.

Prior to the Winter Session, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju will convene with political party floor leaders from both parliamentary houses. The all-party discussion is scheduled for November 24 at 11 AM in the Parliament house annexe's main committee room, New Delhi, with defence minister Rajnath Singh presiding.



The government plans to advance the Waqf Amendment Bill, currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee, during this session. Additionally, the 'One Nation One Election' bill might be introduced.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Waqf Amendment Bills 2024 continues to conduct meetings across various states, engaging with different stakeholders to address concerns and build consensus on this contested legislation, ANI reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently emphasised his administration's commitment to implementing 'One Nation One Election', aiming for concurrent elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

He stated: "We are now working towards One Nation One Election, which will strengthen India's democracy, give optimum outcome of India's resources and the country will gain new momentum in achieving the dream of a developed India. Today, India is moving towards One Nation One Civil Code that is a Secular Civil Code."

In response, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge rejected the feasibility of this concept.

In his statement to reporters, Kharge remarked: "What PM Modi has said, he will not do it, because when it comes in the parliament, he has to take everybody into confidence, then only this will happen. This is impossible, 'One Nation One Election' is impossible."
