'Do not become vote bank of Congress': Kiren Rijiju's warning to Muslims

NEW DELHI: Union Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday accused Congress of treating Muslims as mere vote bank and warned Hindus and others not to fall victim to the party's "divide and rule policies".

Rijiju shared a snippet of his interview with news agency IANS and said," My warning to the Muslims: Do not become vote bank of the Congress! My warning to Hindus & others: Do not become the victims of divide & rule Policies of the Congress Party."

In an exclusive interaction with IANS, Rijiju accused the Congress of misleading the public by falsely claiming that the BJP intends to alter the Constitution. He affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the true protector of the Constitution and has ensured social justice.

"So much work has been done under the leadership of PM Modi that we (BJP) seek people's blessings on the basis of our work. The Congress is scared after seeing our work. It will not get a single seat if it fights on the basis of work. That's why they (Congress leaders) mislead the people by taking Baba Saheb's name and saying false things like changing the Constitution," he said.

The Union Minister further accused the Congress of repeatedly attacking the Constitution and "murdering" it during the 1975 Emergency. "Today people like Rahul Gandhi, who do not believe in the Constitution, have fallen into the trap of anti-India people... and say things that harm India," he said.

"I am very disappointed. Rahul Gandhi should have improved as the Leader of the Opposition, but instead, he aligned himself with anti-national forces. He travels to America and socialises with those who insult India, drinking tea with them and conspiring to defame our nation. It is truly regrettable that we have such a leader in our Lok Sabha who openly associates with forces against India," the Union Minister said.

Rijiju also claimed that the Congress never wanted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's contributions to be publicly acknowledged, which is why they did not confer the Bharat Ratna upon him. He alleged that Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress made every effort to diminish Ambedkar's name and legacy, despite Ambedkar being brought into the Cabinet at Mahatma Gandhi's insistence due to his unparalleled knowledge and understanding of various fields, particularly law.

"It is disheartening to see Congress members, who once disrespected Baba Saheb and the Constitution, now hypocritically hold the Constitution in their hands," he said

"Baba Saheb Ambedkar was brought into the Cabinet at Mahatma Gandhi's insistence because he was the most educated and knowledgeable person in India, especially in law. The depth of his understanding in various fields was unmatched," he added.

Rijiju also claimed that the Congress took steps to prevent Ambedkar from entering Parliament and continued to insult him even after his resignation as law minister, leading to his conversion to Buddhism in 1956 due to the unfavorable political climate in Independent India.
