Ex-Maharashtra home minister and NCP-SP leader Anil Deshmukh injured after stones pelted at his car

NEW DELHI: Anil Deshmukh, the former Maharashtra home minister and NCP (SP) leader, was left with injuries when his car was pelted with stones in Nagpur district on Monday night.

According to police reports, the attack occurred around 8 pm near Belphata, on the Jalalkheda Road near Katol, when some unidentified individuals threw stones at the former minister’s car while he was returning from a meeting in Narkhed village.

Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police, Harsh Poddar, informed that senior officers were rushed to the spot and Deshmukh was taken to the Katol Civil Hospital for treatment.

Poddar said, "Today, around 8 PM, an incident took place in Katol assembly constituency. Anil Deshmukh was coming from Narkhed towards Katol after completing his meeting. According to the primary information, stones were pelted on his car at an isolated place. He has also been injured in this incident."

Speaking on the action taken over the incident, he added, "The rural police have taken this incident very seriously and an investigation has been started immediately. All the senior officers are coming to Katol City. I have visited the spot and an investigation has been started immediately. No conclusion has been reached at this time. The investigation is going on and the complete facts of this incident will be known very soon."

The incident took place on the final day of campaigning for the Maharashtra assembly elections, which are scheduled for November 20.

For the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, Deshmukh's son Salil Deshmukh is contesting from the Katol assembly constituency on the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) ticket against BJP's Charansingh Thakur.
