Haryana, J&K election results: Congress accuses EC of 'deliberate' delay in sharing trends; BJP hits back

Send Push
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of "deliberately" delaying the update of the latest trends for the Haryana Assembly election results on its website.

He claimed that the ECI was sharing "outdated" and "misleading" trends to put pressure on the administration, similar to what occurred during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.

Sharing a post on social media platform X, Ramesh said: “Like the Lok Sabha elections, in Haryana we are again witnessing slowing down of uploading up-to- date trends on the ECI website. Is the BJP trying to build pressure on the administration by sharing outdated and misleading trends @ECISVEEP.”
BJP National spokesperson, Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi , responded to Ramesh's comments and accusations directed at the ECI and said that Ramesh's statements indicate that the Congress party has conceded defeat in the ongoing elections.

“If Jairam Ramesh has already started saying this and pointing fingers at Election Commission, then we should understand that they have accepted their defeat...as per the trends going on, I feel that we are moving towards an important victory and Congress has started taking precautionary measures for their future defeat,” Trivedi said.

Ramesh raised concerns about the BJP's intentions, questioning whether they were attempting to pressure the administration by circulating outdated and misleading trends.

"We are filing a memorandum in the next 5-7 minutes. We are lodging a complaint. We hope that the EC will answer our questions. The results of 10-11 rounds are already out but only 4-5 rounds have been updated on EC website. This is a tactic to pressure the Administration,” Ramesh added.

In response, EC sources told ANI that there was no delay in uploading trends or results on the website, stating, "Results are being updated every 5 minutes. There is no delay."

The latest trends uploaded by the Election Commission show the BJP leading in 49 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 35. The majority mark for the 90-member assembly is set at 46.

Early trends in the Haryana Assembly elections indicated a close contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. While the BJP briefly crossed the halfway mark in Haryana, the Congress and National Conference alliance maintained its lead in Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP is striving for a third consecutive term in Haryana, with Nayab Singh Saini as its chief ministerial candidate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the campaign, highlighting the benefits of the party's "double-engine" government.

Earlier on June 4, during the counting of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections Ramesh had accused the candidates of several Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh of pressurising district officials to ensure victory in their respective constituencies.

"District officials in Maharajganj, Bansi, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh are being pressured over the phone to ensure victory in their respective constituencies." Ramesh wrote on X.

A day before the counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ramesh had accused Shah of contacting over 150 district magistrates to influence the vote counting process.
