'In hotels for 40 days': Ashok Gehlot shares when BJP tried to topple Congress govt in Rajasthan

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday shared his experience of being a victim to horse trading by the central government when his government was in power in Rajasthan.

"These are important elections...Toppling a government through horse trading - I have suffered through this for 40 days in Rajasthan. We stayed in hotels for 40 days. We know how we faced them," Gehlot said without taking any names.

"If the senior leaders of government of India get to it, to topple the government, then it becomes very easy for them. I would like to thank the common public...Everyone supported us and we were able to save our Government. But this tradition is not good," he added.

In 2020, Gehlot, the then Rajasthan CM, had accused Congress leader Sachin Pilot of engaging in horse-trading with the BJP. He had also accused the BJP of indulging in "horse-trading" for the Rajya Sabha elections.

"The Rajya Sabha elections could've been conducted two months back, but they were postponed for no reason because BJP's horse-trading was not complete," he had said.
