The Centre has appointed IAS K Sanjay Murthy as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), succeeding Girish Chandra Murmu .
Murmu was previously the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir following the formation of the new Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In order, the centre said, "By virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint Shri K. Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
Currently, Murthy is serving as the secretary of the department of higher education in the ministry of education.
In this role, Murthy was responsible for overseeing policies related to higher education, ensuring the implementation of government initiatives, and collaborating with educational institutions to promote educational development across the country.
