Maharashtra raises government employees' max gratuity from Rs 14 lakh to Rs 20 lakh

NAGPUR: Maharashtra's Mahayuti govt has hiked the maximum gratuity payable to its employees to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 14 lakh, reports Shishir Arya. It has also eased norms on age proof documents for a section of pensioners. The enhanced gratuity will apply to superannuation as well as death. Among those covered are employees of zilla parishads, those engaged in govt recognised and funded educational institutions and non-govt colleges affiliated with agriculture universities.

The decision follows demands by representatives of state employees' associations. The associations' leaders had met CM Eknath Shinde last month, after which it was decided to hike the gratuity limit. The age-proof document relaxations are for retired employees above 80, for whom pension has been increased 10%. Instead of Aadhaar cards alone, they can present as age proof a slew of other identity papers like birth certificates, voter IDs, passports and certificates issued by bank branch managers and similar documents.
