CHANDIGARH: Nayab Singh Saini will take oath as Haryana CM for a second term on Oct 17 at a grand ceremony in Panchkula , with PM Narendra Modi and senior BJP functionaries in attendance.

The swearing-in of Saini, along with his cabinet, will take place at Dusshera grounds in Sector 5 at 10am. The event was finalised after PMO gave its consent to the availability of the prime minister.

It has emerged that keeping in view the contribution of southern Haryana in BJP's victory in the recently held assembly elections, the party has plans to reward the region with a heavyweight assignment. However, the decision will require approval from Modi and home minister Amit Shah, sources said.

The first meeting related to the oath-taking function was scheduled to be held at the CM house in Chandigarh on Saturday night.

On Friday, members of BJP's core committee and senior functionaries, including Union ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Dharmendra Pradhan, Lok Sabha MP Biplab Deb, BJP state chief Mohan Lal Badoli and state in-charge Surender Nagar, besides Saini, held meetings to discuss formation of the cabinet, and functioning of CM's office. "It is going to be a balanced and strong team, which will take the state forward," said a senior BJP member.

Referring to southern Haryana and former home and health minister Anil Vij, sources said the party brass had kept them in mind. "Vij could be the senior-most minister with more responsibilities. So will be the case of the one from southern Haryana," a source said.
