BAHRAICH /LUCKNOW: Two of the three assailants, who allegedly shot dead former MLA Ziauddin 'Baba' Siddique, 66, in Mumbai Saturday, are natives of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh. Both suspects, Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam , were neighbours in Gandara village in Bahraich's Kaiserganj, and had no criminal record.
Dharmaraj was presented before a local court in Mumbai, while Shivkumar is still at large. The third suspect, Gurmail Baljeet Singh, 23, from Haryana has also been arrested. Bahraich SP Vrinda Shukla said, "Dharmaraj and Shivkumar lived in the same village and had no criminal record so far. Both are around 18-19-years-old and were involved in the scrap trade in Pune. After the murder, we got a call from Mumbai Police."
Police are in touch with the families of the accused.
Dharmaraj's mother was taken aback when police informed her that her son was linked to a murder case. "Dharmaraj, youngest of my five sons, has been living in Mumbai for the past two months and he is involved in the scrap business. Dharmaraj talked to me about 10 days ago," she said.
Shivkumar's mother said she came to know about her son's alleged involvement through news reports. "He had gone to Pune to work in a scrapyard. He last came home on Holi. He hasn't been talking to me." His Instagram post from April 10 revealed he was employed at a warehouse where he packed and shipped online orders. His father said his son might have been manipulated to commit the crime.
Months earlier, Shivkumar had flaunted his 'status' as a 'gangster' on social media. "Yaar tera gangster hai jaani," he wrote. Shivkumar has 33 posts on his social media page, frequently depicting himself as a gangster.
In one post, he referred to himself as a villain, accompanied by a Bhojpuri song voice-over: "Neta na kono vidhayak, majnu hamar khalnayak hai (Not a politician or an MLA, my beloved is a villain)."
