NEW DELHI: While the whole world is having a sweet time performing Chhath Puja , Delhi's Geeta Colony celebration soured as the devotees found their artificial ghat without water.

The Geeta colony's devotees on Thursday staged protests as they were in shock when they reached the artificial ghat to perform 'Sandhya Arghya' to worship the setting sun. They found their ghat without water. The protesters raised slogans against the Delhi government over the unavailability of water.

One of the protester said, "Why did they make all these arrangements if they were not going to give water? We could have celebrated the festival at home. We will take it to the streets if water is not provide."

Reacting to the delay of the water supply, BJP councilor Sandeep Kapoor said, "Providing water is the responsibility of the Delhi government, which didn’t supply any water until 4:30 pm. Afterward, I personally arranged for two tankers to fill the pond, but the Delhi government made no arrangements. The water arrived very late and was insufficient"

Another protester said the time is slipping away but there is no water for us to complete the Chhath Puja. "They could have told us earlier, we could have done it on the roofs by filling water in tubs... We are being insulted... The MLA has switched his phone off...," says a devotee who reached the artificial ghats in the Geeta Colony and found them empty.

Meanwhile, Delhi government claimed that they have made arrangements for devotees to perform puja at 1,000 different spots in the city.
