Did 60 Minutes edit Kamala Harris' bumbling answer on Israel and Middle East?

Send Push
Donald Trump criticised 60 Minutes for allegedly editing Kamala Harris ’ responses in a way that made her appear more coherent and presidential. He claimed that the producers of the show repeatedly altered her answers to questions, some as many as four times within a single sentence.

Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: “I’ve never seen this before, but the producers of 60 Minutes sliced and diced (“cut and pasted”) Lyin’ Kamala’s answers to questions, which were virtually incoherent, over and over again, some by as many as four times in a single sentence or thought, all in an effort, possibly illegal as part of the “News Division,” which must be licensed, to make her look “more Presidential,” or a least, better. It may also be a major Campaign Finance Violation. This is a stain on the reputation of 60 Minutes that is not recoverable - It will always remain with this once storied brand. I have never heard of such a thing being done in “News.” It is the very definition of FAKE NEWS! The public is owed a MAJOR AND IMMEDIATE APOLOGY! This is an open and shut case, and must be investigated, starting today!”

Following this, questions have arisen over Kamala Harris’ responses in the interview, particularly regarding her comments on Israel . Critics pointed out that her handling of questions about Israel and Middle East diplomacy, including her administration’s approach to Israel and Hamas, left much to be desired. Netanyahu’s government, they argued, had wisely continued its strategy without depending on U.S. involvement, particularly due to concerns over information leaks.

Bill Whitaker , the journalist conducting the interview, was noted for doing a reasonably good job by challenging Harris when she tried to deflect questions. However, there are claims that significant portions of her responses were edited out, especially on Twitter, which is a major platform for viewers to see interview clips. Critics argue that this makes it appear as though CBS was attempting to shield Harris from negative attention, especially given the already heavily edited nature of the interview aired on TV.

This has sparked debate over what else might have been cut before the interview was broadcast. Some have called for CBS to release the unedited version of the interview to allow the public to evaluate Harris’ responses and 60 Minutes’ role in shaping the narrative. The suspicion is that the network's edits were designed to assist Harris, raising broader concerns about media bias .
