Marjorie Taylor Greene , a Republican Congresswoman from Georgia, made explosive claims on Tuesday, accusing her GOP colleagues of using taxpayer money to secretly settle sexual harassment and assault cases. She threatened the Republicans if the House Ethics Committee released their “highly damaging” report on Matt Gaetz .
Her remarks came amidst the controversy surrounding Donald Trump 's nomination of Matt Gaetz as attorney general, a decision met with resistance from Republican lawmakers due to the mounting allegations against Gaetz.
Greene, known for her polarising statements, took to X (formerly Twitter) to challenge her fellow Republicans, demanding transparency.
“If we are going to release ethics reports and rip apart our own that Trump has appointed, then put it ALL out there for the American people to see,” she wrote, adding that all claims, including the one she filed, should be made public.
Greene also called for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files and other related materials, stating, “If we’re going to dance, let’s all dance in the sunlight.”
The controversy over Gaetz stems from allegations of sexual misconduct, including claims that he paid women for sex and had relations with a 17-year-old girl. These accusations were part of a two-year Justice Department investigation that concluded without charges.
However, a House Ethics Committee report on Gaetz’s alleged misconduct was reportedly set for release last week but was delayed after his resignation from Congress. Greene argued that such reports, along with settlements involving taxpayer money, should be made public.
According to The Independent, a hacker recently accessed a file containing damaging testimony against Gaetz, which included allegations of sexual relations with a minor.
Gaetz has consistently denied these claims, labelling them as false and part of an extortion attempt. Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that Trump himself has privately expressed doubts about Gaetz’s ability to secure Senate confirmation.
Despite Greene’s fiery statements, few Republicans have rallied behind her call for transparency. Representative Max Miller of Ohio voiced his opposition to Gaetz’s nomination, stating that his track record as a member of Congress has been “abhorrent.”
Similarly, Tony Gonzales of Texas described Gaetz as a “quiet guy” whose past actions have raised concerns among colleagues.
