'I liked him very much when I met him but ... ': JK Rowling slams John Oliver over 'transgenders in female sports' argument

Send Push
JK Rowling on Monday called out John Oliver after he argued for transgenders in female sports citing no proven record there was any safety threat on female athletes in his satirical show.

Expressing fondness for Oliver when Rowling met him, the latter said about former that he was "undoubtedly intelligent person spouts absolute bullshit to support something he wants to be true, but isn't."

"Nothing about this feels good, because John Oliver generously gave his time for my charity Lumos and I liked him very much when I met him, but God knows, if you ever need an example of motivated reasoning and confirmation bias, this video's for you," she said.

She also cited a UN report that talked about hazards of mixed gender sports on health of women. "According to the UN, female athletes have lost nearly 900 medals to trans-identified men competing against them in women’s sporting categories," she said.

"Girls have been ousted from teams to make way for boys," she added providing no evidence of the claim.

The issue has taken centerstage after Donald Trump's "Kamala is for they/them; Trump is for you" sparked debate in the political circle.

Earlier this year, Rowling sparked controversy after she posted comments denying that the Nazis "burnt books on trans healthcare and research". Rowling was responding to a post that said -- "The Nazis burnt books on transhealthcare and research, why are you so desparate to uphold their ideology around gender?"
