"Don't get me wrong. I love America, I was raised there. I have my family there. It's a great place but it's by no means a perfect place. And even places like America have a lot of issues," said Kristen Fischer , who is a mother of three from the US.

Fischer shared her remarkable journey from the US to India, shedding light on what drove her to leave behind the "comforts" of American life. In a heartfelt video on Instagram, Fischer explains how her love for the sense of community and togetherness in India led her to settle in New Delhi with her family.

Fischer first visited India in 2017 with her husband and was struck by the vibrant culture and the communal spirit that permeated everyday life. After that visit, India stayed in her heart, and by 2021, she made the life-altering decision to relocate permanently. Her announcement surprised many, as moving from the US to India is a rare choice for someone raised in the West. But for Fischer, it was about something deeper.

In her viral video, which has garnered over a million views, Fischer explains that while she loves the US, she found it to be a "highly individualistic" and "socially isolated" society. "There's more to life than money," she states, underscoring that the sense of fulfilment she feels in India far outweighs the financial success that often defines life in the US.

Fischer highlights how living in India offers her children a richer, more connected social environment. She emphasises that her kids are growing up surrounded by a sense of community, which she believes will set them up for a more successful future. "I think my kids are being set up for a more successful life and future in India," she says, pointing to the importance of cultural interactions and the constant presence of others.

Reflecting on the isolation many feel in the US, Fischer shares that numerous Indians living in America have echoed her sentiments, often feeling lonely despite the financial opportunities available. For her, India offers a different kind of wealth—one rooted in relationships and shared experiences.

"You can make more money living in the US. And if that's your only goal in life then maybe you'll be happy there. But I believe that there is so much more to life than just making money. There are a lot better reasons to want to live somewhere, to raise your family somewhere and I believe that joy, that fulfilment and that kind of life is what we can find living in India," she said in the viral video.

Kristen’s video has sparked a discussion about living conditions in both India and the US, with netizens expressing their thoughts and sharing their experiences, both negative and positive.

Some believe that what Kristen is saying in the video is correct and to an extent highlights the vibrant environment India provides in the context of culture and social cohesiveness. Meanwhile, some believe that this experience is subjective and doesn’t represent the whole society.
